Nikon Z8 battery grip plate
Wrote a review a few months ago but it never got posted. Overall a great plate (like everything else RRS makes). But another reviewer commented on the change from the magnetic clasp for the allen wrench to the two plastic clips, and I'll echo that: I found myself wondering how many times the wrench would be knocked out of this new mount. Answer thus far: twice. During a photo op to Scotland I found the wrench in my photo bag, and later watched as it was knocked out of the mounts while setting up in a photo op. I imagine this design change was to keep costs down - but my recommendation: in the future, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Why the change?
This is my second purchase of the Modular L-Plate for the Nikon Z8. The first L-Plate has worked fine and was made of quality materials as we have come to expect from RRS products. When the second L-Plate arrived I was more than a little surprized to see RRS is now using a pair of plastic clips to hold the allen wrench in place on the bottom of the plate vs. the magnets they used on earlier versions of the same plate. While the plastic clips seem to hold the allen wrench firmly in place, I have to wonder how the plastic will hold up over time. A combination of normal wear and tear as well as the fact mosts plastics tend to get hard and brittle over time raises concernsfor me. I've used RRS plates for years which included use of magnets with no issues, so I have to wonder why they decided to make the switch.....likely a cost savings measure. Color me skeptical at this point and hope my initial concerns do not manifest themselves into problems in the future.
