Tripod Guide

All RRS tripods with apex side by side comparison
RRS TRIPOD & MONOPODS · MADE IN THE USA

Every RRS tripod, explained.

Really Right Stuff tripods and monopods are precision-engineered carbon fiber support systems — designed, machined, and assembled in the USA for photographers, filmmakers, hunters, competitive shooters, and professionals who can't afford a failure in the field. This guide walks through every series, the features they all share, and how to match the right tripod to your gear and your terrain.

Understanding RRS tripod series

Each RRS tripod series is built around a specific leg tube diameter, numbered from 0 to 3, with an occasional limited-edition series 4 (1.603" diameter). Tube size and leg length directly influence stiffness, vibration damping, and how much weight the tripod can comfortably support. Lighter tubes favor packability and travel, while larger diameters deliver maximum stability for heavy optics and demanding conditions.

Choosing the right tube size comes down to your shooting style, load, and terrain — match your tripod series to the stability, height, and portability your specific needs and environment demand.

Universal features across RRS support systems

RRS tripods and monopods share core engineering features designed for dependable performance in demanding environments.

01

CNC-Machined Aluminum Apexes

Durable apex construction with protective anodizing on every fitting and hardware component.

02

Proprietary Carbon Fiber

Rigid, lightweight tube construction engineered by RRS for maximum stability under load.

03

Sealed Twist Locks

Designed to minimize fouling from dust, sand, and moisture, extending long-term service life.

04

Interchangeable Feet

Rubber feet swap for Rock Claws or Foot Spikes. Feet are removeable by design, so they change quickly to match terrain and mission needs.

Six tripod series, two apex philosophies

Every RRS tripod is machined to the same standard of precision, but the apex — where the head attaches — is what separates the six series. Benchmark, Versa, Ultralight, and TFCX use a fixed or modular apex, so you choose and mount your own tripod head. Ascend and TFCT-Anvil instead integrate a ball head directly into the apex for a single, streamlined platform built for speed. Beyond that, what differs is weight class and the terrain each series is built for.

CORE LINE

Benchmark Tripods

Benchmark tripods are part of the new RRS core line of support systems, combining an all-new apex and in-house carbon fiber construction to deliver RRS stability at a more accessible price point. With full-size leg geometry, a 45 (inverted) and 75 (traditional) lb-class rating, and 4 leg-angle options, Benchmark provides a versatile platform for everyday landscapes, travel, portraits, and long-lens work while maintaining a refined, serviceable design for long-term field use.

  • All-new, in-house apex for a more accessible price point
  • Full-size leg geometry with a 45 lb-class (inverted) or 75 lb-class (traditional) rating
  • Wide leg-angle options for everyday landscapes and travel

MODULAR APEX

Versa Tripods

Versa tripods are built around a modular apex platform that can be removed and replaced with compatible RRS Versa apex accessories. This allows the same tripod to be configured for leveling bases, quick-columns, and other support solutions.

  • 3/8" mounting stud for attaching tripod heads
  • Removable platform compatible with Versa apex accessories
  • Spirit level for fast leveling
  • Pull-tab angle stops with multiple leg angles
  • SureGrip™ set screws secure the apex accessory
  • Weight hook for ballast or accessories
Tip: Check SureGrip set screws periodically to confirm the apex accessory remains secure.

FIXED APEX

Ultralight Tripods

Ultralight tripods use a fixed apex design for a compact, mobile-friendly system that's ideal for lightweight or highly portable setups.

  • 3/8" mounting stud for tripod heads
  • 1/4"-20 accessory socket
  • Pull-tab angle stops with multiple leg angles
  • Strap lug for the removable strap
Note: If using the set screw to secure a head, tightening may mar the head base. For semi-permanent installation without set screws, use one drop of blue/medium-strength threadlocker on the stud during installation.

CROSSOVER MOUNTING

TFCX Tripods

The TFCX line is designed for users who want a compact, lightweight carbon fiber tripod that deploys fast and holds steady in low-profile positions. It excels in seated and kneeling use, tight terrain, and mobile field scenarios where packability and stability are more important than maximum height.

  • Refined taper-mount apex with a secure 3/8"-16 interface and taper-mount set-screw compatibility for Anvil-30 ARC
  • Naturally low center of gravity for stable low-profile setups
  • Supports interchangeable feet options for traction across changing surfaces
  • Apex supports rapid modular reconfiguration, enabling seamless transitions between precision shooting and camera support setups

ALL-IN-ONE TRAVEL

Ascend Tripods

Ascend tripods combine an optional integrated ball head, panning base, and quick-column system for a compact, fast-deploying support solution designed for versatile field use.

  • Optional integrated ball head for a smaller overall package
  • Quick-release clamp supports fast plate attachment and removal
  • Panning base for accurate panning and drop-notch tilting
  • Repositionable drop notch for rapid vertical orientation
  • Quick-column with safety stop options and toolless removal features
  • QD socket for attaching a QD sling

TACTICAL PRECISION

TFCT-Anvil Tripods

TFCT tripods are purpose-built systems where an included Anvil-30 ARC ball head that fits directly into the tapered apex. This integrated design creates a streamlined, rigid platform optimized for hunters, long-range or precision shooters, military, and law enforcement use.

  • Anvil-30 ball head integrates directly into the TFCT's tapered apex
  • Lever-release clamp with a dual dovetail that accepts RRS plates and Picatinny rails
  • Large ergonomic lever controls for fast, confident adjustments
For detailed head-specific operation, reference the Anvil-30 user manual.
