not up to par
This is really not built nearly as well as the rest of tripod. The column is not carbon fiber. It should be. Raising and lower this thing is a challenge, you have to yank on it. It doesn't move smoothly or easily up and down at all. The base that screws in on top has no locking nuts to secure it to the column. Save your money.

Works Great. Some initial difficulty
Exactly what I needed. These have been out of stock for some time so I signed up to be notified when they would be available again. Very well made and works great. It's everything you'd expect from RRS. However, after installation the center column wouldn't raise! I kept loosening the silver wing-nut more and more and still the column would not raise up. So I completely loosened the wing-nut until it was not longer engaged with the base and removed the column completely leaving just the base still attached to the apex. The silver wing-nut was stuck at the top of the column. Turns out that part of the circular nylon bushing (inside the wing-nut) was bonded to the metal column as if someone had put a tad of superglue to hold it in place. After a little bit of wiggling the wing-nut it finally broke free from the column. I don't know if this was intentional at the factory but there was no mention about the wing-nut being temporary glued to the column in the user guide. At any rate, everything is working fine and it's a great addition to my TVC-33.
